Social Networking for Business – Early Adopter or Non-Starter?

I read a really interesting blog post from Ivan Misner the other day about networking with social media. As Ivan says, its “important to offer useful information balanced with a dash of personal insight”. Doing this is engaging – it draws people into conversations and that’s where the social aspect truly comes to the fore. Relationships form quickly and it is imperative that these connections are not allowed to simply fade away or be transient through a lack of any depth to the conversation.

The number of businesses making use of social media is still relatively small and the number who actually have a strategy based on an understanding of how the internet works is minute.  We are still very much in the ‘early adopter’ phase.  A great opportunity exists for companies and individuals eager to gain credibility and exposure to participate in the global conversation.

Having a strategy which includes a clear view of the topics you will be focussing on will allow you to widen your network in a way that engages an audience you can truly communicate with; not necessarily those who will agree with what you say but those who have an interest in what you have to say.
